A little rewind backward to Ringo’s 4th EP release from October last year “Rewind Forward”. The 10″ vinyl release which is reviewed here presents four tracks in Ringo’s now preferred format. Selling for a hefty price which could normally cover a full LP worth of material for anyone else but nevertheless I for one am grateful that Ringo is still willing and able to throw out new tunes.

The opening track [a Steve Lukather / Joseph Williams composition] “Shadows On The Wall’ a mid tempo track is a pleasant enough jaunt with an 80’s ‘soft rock’ vibe and nice guitar work from Lukather, a now stalwart of the All Starr Band. “Feeling The Sunlight” will gets the most attention being a McCartney composition. The song with a choppy guitar accompaniment similar to “Getting Better”, is an obvious choice for Paul to have served to Ringo and he in turn relishes the opportunity to add his “Peace and Love” hallmark and makes it a really enjoyable listen.
Side 2 kicks off with the EP’s title track. Penned by Ringo and joint producer for this collection, Bruce Sugar, while not remarkable it echos the 80’s soft rock of the discs opening track. Different in feel and closing the EP with an old style rock ‘n’ roll number is “Miss Jean”. Written by ex Heartbreaker Mike Campbell this track, for me, is a highlight with great guitar work courtesy of Campbell and a fabulous and era sympathetic boogie-woogie piano by fellow Heartbreaker Belmont Tench.
All in all this is another welcome contribution from Ringo, with the only hesitation in mind being the what if question … could not the combination of EP’s into an album format make a more pleasing and fulfilling listening experience?
